Mercury Surface

Water Ice

Radar observations from the Earth in 1992 suggested that water ice, or sulphur, may be present in permanently shadowed craters near the poles. Ice could have been deposited by meteorites, or have diffused from the planet's crust. The neutron spectrometer on BepiColombo will be able to search for such deposits.
