    Blank of JWST mirror segment

    The unpolished blank of one of the 18 hexagonal mirror segments that will make up the JWST's primary mirror. The blank has a diameter of 1.3 metres.

    This view shows the back side of the mirror segment, with the ribbed structure that is designed to minimize the weight of the segment (weighing about 20 kg).
